Looks like we’ll have a bit of rain on Friday, October 3, 2014, but the weekend promises great weather with a bit of a chill in the air in parks around Lake Allatoona.

Skills of the Past
Saturday, Oct 4, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Etowah Indian Mounds Historic Site – Cartersville
Come see demonstrations of primitive skills that were essential to the Native Americans of the Southeast in prehistoric times. $2 – $6. 770-387-3747.

Astronomy Day Night Time Paddle
Saturday, Oct 4, 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Hard Labor Creek State Park – Rutledge, GA
Join us on this paddle to view the sunset and night sky as we enjoy various constellations. Register in advance. $15 plus $5 parking. 706-557-3001.

Civil War Battle of Allatoona Pass Remembered
Saturday, Oct 4, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sunday, Oct 5, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Red Top Mountain State Park – Acworth, GA
Watch Civil War rifle and cannon demonstrations, visit the tent city, and tour the hillside and railroad cut through the pass. 770-975-0055.

Saturday, Oct 11, 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Hard Labor Creek State Park – Rutledge, GA
Join a guided tour of Lake Rutledge and enjoy a peaceful paddle under a bright moon. Listen for night sounds, enjoy the night sky, and learn about the history of Hard Labor Creek State Park. Register in advance. The program will proceed if it is cloudy or if there is light drizzle. $15 plus $5 parking. 706-557-3001.

Halloween Hayrides
Fridays and Saturdays in Oct 7, p.m. to 10 p.m.
Red Top Mountain State Park – Acworth, GA
Take a “spooktacular” hayride through the old ghost town of Ravenwood and listen closely as storytellers tell spooky tales around a campfire. This event is family-friendly and great for all ages. $5 parking. 678-792-9554.
