An estimated 40 firefighters were called just before 4:45 PM on Monday, May 19, 2014, to fight a fire at the power house at the Lake Allatoona dam, operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).

Atlanta’s Channel 2 Action News says officials told them “work was being done at the power station Monday and the fire started when they turned the power back on.”

There were no reports of injuries and no estimates of the cost of damage done by the blaze.

A Facebook message left on the page of the US Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District, Allatoona Lake was posted around 4 PM on May 19th stating:

Please note that the Allatoona Lake Project Management Office has lost power begining early this morning and continuing so far throughout this afternoon. Since we have no power that means our phone lines and fax lines are down as well. The power and phone lines will hopefully be restored by tomorrow morning. Sorry for any inconvienance.

No further information was available at the Lake Allatoona USACE webpage or Facebook page, as of 8 PM on May 19th.

We will share factual information as it becomes available.
