4 Great Reasons to Visit the Tellus this Weekend

Stellar Astronomy Workshop

  • Date:  Friday, October 7, 2016
  • Time:  8 – 11 PM
  • Ages:  For ages 8 and up, no exceptions
  • Cost:  $10 for members and $25 for non-members

Description:  Meet at the Bentley Planetarium this Friday night to learn about the evening sky.  You’ll learn how to observe the planets, stars and constellations and will explore the surface of the Moon, Mars, Venus and Jupiter.  You’ll get a rotary star chart with hands-on instructions and will have the opportunity to use Tellus telescopes to observe the night sky in the Observatory.

Registration for this workshop closes at noon on Thursday, October 6th.

Description:  This family event brings the Millar Science in Motion gallery to life.  There will be antique cars, motorcycles, heavy machinery, military vehicles, fire engines, helicopters and more for all to explore.  Your family is sure to enjoy the roundup of vehicles expected there this year, which include a vintage Army helicopter, replicas of the Batmobile and the Jurassic Park Jeep, and the Tellus exclusive Phoenix Air’s Bio-Containment System.  If that wasn’t enough, there’s more… you’ll also enjoy kid’s activities, family train rides and cook-out fare on the back patio.

The Science of Fighting Fire, a Special Lecture

  • Date:  Saturday, October 8, 2016
  • Time:  2 PM
  • Ages:  Suitable for all ages
  • Cost:  FREE for members and Regular Admission for non-members

Description:  Take a break from exploring the heavy machines for a discussion on the The Science of Fighting Fire.  Cartersville Fire Department’s Chief of Training, Ronnie Cowart will be at the museum to discuss how the laws of physics apply to firefighting.  He will also show the equipment that firefighters use.

Description:  Celebrate International Observe the Moon Night with Tellus.  Join their astronomy staff in the Tellus Observatory for stargazing and Moon watching.  It’s sure to be the best spot in the area to take part in International Observe the Moon Night.
