Striper & hybrid fishing is strong. Fish are in transition from the spawn. Allatoona
creek has been producing some very nice fish. From the railroad trestle to the pass,
free-line and down lined shad continue to account for most of the catches. Any point
or reef marker complex are holding fish. The Etowah arm is also hot. Galts Ferry,
Victoria, and Little River are producing nice catches also on shad. Trolling the
umbrella rig is still a good bet also. Bank fisherman using cutbait are also doing
quite well. Bartow Carver beach bank fishermen are racking up some unbelievable
hybrids late in the evening.
Black Bass fishing is outstanding. Fish shallow. Prime baits are Mini Me's,
Spinnerbaits, Sliderhead finesse worms fished right against the bank on Main Lake
points, secondary points and pockets are accounting for some big numbers of Spotted
bass.
Crappie fishing is still very strong. The spawn is beginning to wind down however big
numbers are still coming in using live minnows and tube jigs. Green and chartreuse
tube jigs are hot. Marinas and their breakwater devices (tires) are especially hot
right now. Night fishing under lights, if you can stay up, can account for over 100
fish a night. Look for any private dock that leaves a night light on.
Bream fishing during the month of May will be some of the best of the year. The very
back end of any quiet creek will be home to sometimes hundreds of spawning big bream
on the bed. Just look for shallow depressions in the bottom and use crickets or
worms. Be very stealthy.
Good Luck, Cap'n Fred
