Cooper’s Furnace Day Use Area

Located near the Visitor Center, Cooper’s Furnace Day Use Area is open seasonally.  Two pleasant shelters, each seating 60 visitors, make this a popular park.  A fun playground is between the shelters.

Cooper’s Furnace Day Use Area has a horseshoe pit and a volleyball court.  Horseshoes and a volleyball are often available from the onsite Park Hosts.  Picnic tables and grills are conveniently located.

An interesting iron furnace from the 1800s is also within the park.

According to the US Army Corps of Engineer office at Lake Allatoona:

  • A fee of $5 per vehicle is charged at parks with beaches.
  • A $5 boat launching fee is charged at parks with boat ramps.
  • A Corps of Engineers Annual Day-Use Pass may be purchased for $40.  The pass is honored at Corps of Engineers day-use areas and boat ramps

From I-75 take Exit 285 (Red Top Mountain Road).  Go east onto Red Top Mountain Road.  Turn right at the first traffic light onto the connector that leads to Hwy 41.  Turn right onto Hwy 41. Travel 2 miles, crossing over the Etowah River.  Turn right immediately after crossing over the bridge.  Turn left onto Old River Road and travel for 2.5 miles to park entrance.
