Lake Allatoona has suffered an unusual number of drownings this year, with a fourth victim over the weekend. Miguel Ramos, 18 years old and from Athens, drowned at Red Top Mountain Park while trying to swim from one side of a cove to the other.

Tragically, the other three victims this year were of a similar age and died in a similar way. The AJC quotes a Bartow County coroner as saying “That’s what seems to occur in a lot of these drownings. They don’t seem to realize how much effort it takes to swim that far.
