A Department of Natural Resources officer confirmed with LakeAllatoona.com that a boating accident took place around midnight on Friday night, May 24, 2013, on Lake Lanier near Old Federal Park.

Two people were injured when their Sea-Doo jet boat was heavily damaged after being struck by a boat that left the scene after the accident.

The victims have not been identified and were reported in stable condition at Gainesville’s Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

The boat that hit the Sea-Doo might have been a dark colored pontoon boat, but the investigation is still in its earliest stages.

If you have information regarding this accident, please call the Department of Natural Resources at 800-241-4113.

GDNR Law Enforcement Division Assistant Chief Lt. Col. Jeff Weaver said the DNR has four boats on Lake Allatoona this holiday weekend.  They’ll be on the lookout for drivers operating recklessly, boaters under the influence and equipment violations.

New laws are in effect — lower blood alcohol limits for BUI and the requirement for children under the age of 13 to wear life preservers on moving vessels.
