The most well-known attraction on Lake Allatoona is Red Top Mountain State Park.  If you’re traveling there by car, you’ll see plenty of signs directing you there from I-75.

This beautiful recreational area is located near the center of Lake Allatoona, right across from the dam.

Once you’re there, try to forget how close you are to Atlanta.  That’s easy when you look around and see how close you are to the lake, trails and the hills.

The park is historically significant for the 1864 Atlanta Campaign of the American Civil War when the Battle of Allatoona Pass was fought on a battlefield that is now within the park. Follow the Allatoona Pass Civil War Interpretation Trail through the battlefield and find out more about the history of the battle from interpretative signs.

Try to “find yourself” all by yourself.  Or, bring the family and celebrate life at one of the pavilions you can reserve and rent for larger groups.

Fish, have a cookout, nap in your hammock, camp, cookout again and nap in your hammock for dessert.  Rent one of the lovely cottages or set up a tent right next to the water.  Yes, there’s room for your motorhome too.

Relax or have a blast.  You can do it all at Red Top Mountain State Park.
