4 Great Reasons to Visit the Tellus Science Musuem

Tellus Science Musuem

Since opening its doors to the public on January 12, 2009, Tellus has become a spectacular destination for family-oriented science adventures.  This Spring, Tellus has a great line-up of events for all to enjoy.  Here are 4 great events worthy of making a trip to Tellus this spring.

Earth Day Exploration Celebration

Bring the family to enjoy a great day “planting seeds of change”.   Among many great Lorax themed activities, children can make a trufulla tree pencil, a Lorax mustache, and watch The Lorax in the Tellus Theater for no additional charge.  Attendees will receive their own package of wildflower seeds while supplies last.

Fee:  This event is free for members and will cost regular admission for non-members.

Lunch & Learn:  Why Volunteers Matter

Participants will meet the volunteers of Tellus and learn about the things they love about the museum.  The volunteers will discuss why they have made the commitment to “change the world four hours at a time”.  Note that no outside food is allowed; however, participants are welcome to purchase food from the cafe and bring it into the lecture.  This event is suitable for ages 8+.

National Astronomy Day + Star Party

Interested in Astronomy?  Come out to join others to celebrate National Astronomy Day at Tellus.  Stargazing begins at 1pm, when the observatory opens to observe the sun.  There will be a line-up of lectures in the afternoon and future scientists presenting their winning projects from the 2017 Georgia Science and Engineering Fair.  Star-gazing will continue outside once the sun sets (participants are welcome to bring their own telescopes).  There will be various themed children activities during the evening.  The event will culminate with an astronomer lead outdoor star walk on the museum grounds at 9 and 9:30pm.

Supernova 2017: Jockeys and Juleps

Buy tickets by Friday, April 28th for this annual fundraiser to support Science education and quality programs for local students and residents.  This event is for those over 21, and tickets include all food, an open-bar and derby-themed games.  There’ll be a live blue-grass bands, delicious Southern food and of course, bourbon and mint juleps.  Derby attire is encouraged, though not mandated.

Time:  5:30pm – 10:30pm

Fee:  Tickets are $75.  Be sure to buy your ticket by Friday, April 28th.
