News has come from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers saying the Vineyard Mountain Trail will be closed from Friday, December 1st through Sunday, December 31st 2017 to allow for hunting to be conducted in the area.
The Allatoona Lake Project Management Office is closing the trails because of “scheduled hunting activities in the area” for the month of December.
The trailheads for Vineyard Mountain Trail are located at Riverside Day Use Area and Bethany Bridge. Hikers should schedule their activities at other nearby locations such as Cooper’s Furnace Trail, Pine Mountain Trail, or the trails at Red Top Mountain State Park.
Also known as the Vineyard Mountain Eagle Scout Trails, the paths go through forests on Vineyard Mountain. Hikers have vantage points where they can pause and take in the gorgeous views of the Etowah River Valley, Allatoona Dam, Cooper’s Furnace area and Lake Allatoona.
