The official Memorial Day holiday weekend statistics for incidents in Georgia have been released by Melissa Cummings of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Law Enforcement Division.

These figures include information for the entire weekend,  Saturday, May 25 through Monday, May 27, 2013.

The winner of the most odd police report was the damage incurred by a houseboat at Holiday Marina on Lake Lanier that occurred either Sunday night or Monday morning, according to the DNR’s Melissa Cummings.  There were no injuries and no other details were available.

We are thankful there were no boating-related deaths on Lake Allatoona.

  • Drownings: 2 (1 was in the Augusta Canal; 1 was in a Private 30-acre Pond in Coffee County)
  • Boating under the Influence: 39
  • Boating Incidents: 6
  • Boating Incident Related Injuries: 5
  • Boating Incident Relate Fatalities: 0

By comparison, 2012’s Memorial Day weekend had these events:

  • Drownings: 2
  • BUI Arrests: 27
  • Boating Incidents 14
  • Boating Incidents with Injuries: 7.

No mention of the Memorial Day holiday should go without a mention of what we are celebrating: the sacrifices made by those who either currently serve or have served the United States of America in the military.

All gave some.  Some gave all.  Thanks to the few who have won freedom for us all.  We are in your debt.
