The Visitor Center Loop is a 3/4 mile Moderate hike that begins about one hundred yards down Sweetgum Trail from the Red Top Mountain State Park Visitor Center.
The Visitor Center Loop veers to the right at the point where the Sweetgum Trail takes a sharp left. You’ve probably heard the old hiker adage, “When you come to a fork in the road — take it!”
Again, this is a Moderate rated path. That typically means the trail is in good condition, longer than an Easy hike and has “moderate elevation gain.” If you’re in good shape, you should be fine.
The trail passes through a shaded hardwood forest. You’ll love the small spring-fed stream and two viewing/relaxation platforms.
Remember, any day in the woods is better than a good day watching television.
