Lines-side fishing is Good!!

The lake is still out of its banks, but is going down.  If we don’t have any more rain this week, I think the loading docks will be usable by the end of next week.

The debris is almost gone.  The strong winds we had earlier this week blew most of it to the banks.  There is still some on the main lake from the dam to Little River.  So, be careful if you’re heading to the lake this weekend.

The bite up the river has returned and there are some very good numbers of Hybrids being caught up the Etowah.  These fish are feeding best on live shad fished on the bottom.

The main lake bite is also very good.  My clients have caught very good numbers aboard our boats this week fishing main lake creek mouths as far north as Little River and as far south as Clark’s Creek.

Our best bite has been on Thread Fin Shad fished on down-lines and free-lines.  Main lake points and humps are also holding some decent schools of Hybrids.

Trolling has been very good for me this week.  I have been pulling Mack Farr U-Rigs 50 – 70 feet behind the boat and have had as many as five on at a time.  The trolling bite is really starting to heat up and will only get better as we enter summer.

The overall bite is really good.  We still have plenty of openings aboard our boats.  Let’s go fishing!

Lines-side fishing is Good!!

The lake is about eight feet above full pool and there is debris floating everywhere.  So if you’re heading out this weekend be careful.

To my surprise the water has very good color from Kellogg’s all the way to the spillway at Lake Acworth.  The bite this week is also surprising.  The overall bite is really good.  Dodging all the debris can be challenging but rewarding if you’re willing to put in the time.  The rivers are blown out and probably will be until sometime next week.

The best bite going right now is probably the bank bite at the spillway.  Bank anglers are having a field day right now.  I talked to the DNR on 5/7 and they said they have been seeing some really good catches coming from the banks at the spillway.  I rode over there on 5/8 and watched about a dozen Hybrids being caught on both live bait and artificial.

There is also a decent bite in the mouth of all the major creeks right now.  Main lake points and humps are also holding some decent schools of Hybrids.  The bite is a mixture of down lines, planer boards and free lines, with most of the fish coming off the down lines after 8 AM.

Trolling has been decent, but should get really good once the water temperature hits 70 degrees.

Overall the lake is flowing out of its banks and there is floating debris everywhere.  But spring is an awesome time to be on the water and the lake will drop back down to normal levels soon.

Grab the kids, give us a call and let’s go fishing.

Lines-sides fishing is Decent!!

The run we had this past weekend blew the rivers out.  They are running fast.

There is plenty of debris floating down both the Etowah and Little Rivers right now.  The main lake is still clear, but there is also a lot of debris floating on the main lake as well as the rivers.  If you’re heading out in the next few days be very careful.  The fishing this past week has been decent.  Finding water that is debris free, and holding bait and fish is the key to catching fish right now.

The fish on the main lake are up in the water column and are very hard to mark on 2 D sonar.  If you have a Lowrance with side-scan you can locate these fish by running your side scan setting on 60 feet on both sides.  That’s been working great for me on my Lowrance 12 in Touch.  If you don’t have side-scan, the best way to find these fish is to put out a spread of planer boards and free-lines.  Pull the banks and open water until you get bit.

Planer boards and freeing live shad on the main lake has been our best bite and are accounting for at least 95% of our catch on both Lake Allatoona and Carters Lake.

Small to middle-size gizzard shad has been the ticket.  If throwing the net isn’t your cup of tea, Striper Soup Bait and Tackle in ACTH has plenty on hand.

The river bite is a different story.  Cut bait seems to be fishing best right now.  But cut shad and chicken liver fished in any bend of the river or near anything blown down will catch you fish.

There have also been a lot of big cats caught up the river the last few weeks.  The lake record for Blue cats was broken recently with a nice 36 pounder.  Congrats to the angler for a great catch.

Trolling has been decent but should get really good once the water temperature hits 70 degrees.

Overall the bite on Allatoona is very good for almost the entire lake.  Spring is an awesome time to be on the water.  Grab the kids give us a call 770 827-6282 and let’s go fishing.

Line-side fishing is Good!

The fish are biting from one end of the lake to the other.  The Hybrids have started their spawn runs up both the Etowah River and Little River.  Most of the fish that are being caught are already spawned out.  The river bite should stay decent into the middle of May. The main lake is also fishing well.

The fish that are returning out of the rivers are starting to school up from the Little River Bridge up to the delta, and from the S-Turns to Kelloggs Creek.  There is also a decent south-end bite going on right now from Iron Hill to the bay out in front of 3rd Army.

The fish on the main lake are up in the water column and are very hard to mark on 2 D sonar.  If you have a Lowrance with side-scan, you can locate these fish by running your side-scan setting on 60 feet on both sides.  That has been working Great for me on my Lowrance 12 in Touch.  If you don’t have side-scan, the best way to find these fish is to put out a spread of planer boards and free-lines and pull the banks and open water until you get bit.

Line-side fishing is:  Good right now.

The water temperature is heating up fast and the bite is really starting to get good.  The river bite finally started.  The white bass have moved up and are being caught on white rooster tails and crappie jigs.  I expect we are just days away before the Hybrids and Stripers move up as well.

Right now I am spending most of my time in the creeks. There are decent schools of fish in all the major creeks right now.  Kellogg’s, Stamp, Clark, Tanyard and Iron Hill have all produced for my boats in the last 10 days.

There is also another bite going on from Little River all the way up to Fields Landing.  If you find the baitfish, you’ll find stripers and hybrids nearby.  These fish are feeding up for the upcoming spawn run.

Flat-lines in the morning and afternoon and down-lines midday is the way to go.

The topwater bite this week has been slow compared to last week’s. If you are lucky enough to come across breaking fish, Rooster tails, Flukes, Popping Corks, Jerk baits and free-lining shad will all catch you fish right now.

Trolling is working really well right now. The Mack Farr 3-arm umbrella rig has been producing best for me right now.  Color doesn’t seem to matter, but speed is a factor. The best speed for me this week has been between 3.3 – 3.5 MPH.

Remember, the month April is one of the best months for line-side fishing. We still have a few days open this month and we’re offering family trips starting at $250.00.

Line-side fishing: Good right now.

The river bite is on hold for now, but it will pick back up as the water starts to clear.

Right now your best chance to load the boat is mid-lake.  There are big schools of fish showing up from Kellogg’s Creek to the S-Turns.  There is also a good bite in the Allatoona Creek arm from Iron Hill to Clark Creek, and another one from Little River all the way up to Fields Landing.

All of your major creeks have fish in them right now.  If you find the baitfish, you’ll find stripers and hybrids nearby.

Flat-lines in the morning and afternoon and down-lines mid-day is the way to go.

The topwater bite this week has been some of the best I have seen since last spring.  These schools are big and are willing to eat.  We caught both Hybrids and White bass on topwater this week using rooster tails, Flukes, Popping Corks, Jerk baits and free-lining shad.

Trolling is working really well right now.  The Mack Farr 3-arm umbrella rig has been producing best for me right now.  Color doesn’t seem to matter, but speed is a factor.  The best speed for me this week has been between 3.3–3.5 miles per hour.

Line-sides: Good!!!

The south end of the lake is still holding fish, but not as many as weeks past. I have done really well mid-lake this week and have also caught a few good fish in the Allatoona Creek Arm.

The fish are still hitting flat-line and planer boards best in the early morning. By 9:30 am change over to down-lines and u-rigs.

The spring run has started. The white have already started running up the river. It won’t be long before the Hybrids and Stripers start their run as well.

Topwater:  The topwater bite is also starting to pick up. Both the flats at Little River and the Delta are starting to heat up at sunup and sundown.  White Rooster Tails are hard to beat when these fish are busting top water.

Line side fishing is Good!!!

March is starting off to be a great month even with all the rain we are getting.  The fish are starting to show up in the bays near Little River.  The sea gulls are showcasing these fish and are easy to catch when they are on top.

We catch these fish with live bait fished on freelines and planer boards, along with throwing a Spook at them.

There is also a good down-line bite from Galts Ferry up to Clear Creek.  These fish are deep and can be anywhere from 18-40 feet down.

The south end is also picking up.  Iron Hill is starting to produce some really nice stripers.  The numbers are better up lake, but the bigger fish seem to be south.

Trolling is also starting to pick up.  I have caught some really good hybrids on Mack Farr umbrella rigs anywhere I find clean water.

Topwater:  We are starting to see some topwater action in the morning, but it’s very short and limited.  The topwater bite will improve as the water warms.  So keep a Jr Spook ready.

Line – Sides!!!  The bite is getting better and so is the water clarity.

The bite this week has been decent.  The majority of the fish are still in eyesight of the dam, but we are also hearing reports of fish being caught mid-lake and as far north as the flats at the delta.

The fish are in very tight schools and sometimes running very deep for this time of year. This week we have caught a few fish on freelines, but most of our catch is coming on downlines fished anywhere from 20-55 feet deep.

The live-bait bite is starting to change.  The fish have been on an almost all trout diet for most of the winter. But this past week that has started to change. They seem to prefer shad over trout 3-1, and even higher at times. Once the water temperature hits 55 degrees, I will be using shad 100% of the time.

I really think we are going to have an early spawn run this year. I think in the next ten days we will see the fish start migrating north and start staging on the flats and humps, getting ready to make the run up the river.

This will be a welcome sight for me because I am ready for spring.

Line-sides fishing is Decent!!

Same song and dance: rain, rain, rain.  The lake is stained from Little River all the way to the dam. The water is pretty clear from the dam south to Clarks Creek.

Finding fish is easy right now, but getting them to bite with any consistency is another story. The better bite this week came between the dam and Bethany Bridge. There is also a bite from the Block House to Clarks Creek, but both bites are fair at best.

Down-lining shad and small trout seems to work equally as well. Most of the bigger schools are between 22-50 deep. If we could go two weeks without rain, I think our bite will get great.

The water temps are really good for this time of year. If we don’t see a big prolonged arctic blast, I think we will avoid a shad kill again this year. This will make netting bait easier this spring, but fishing may be a little harder.

As we enter into March, look for these fish to move north and start staging for the spawn run. I look for the run to start early this year, due to the mild winter we are having. I really look for these fish to make the migration north by the second week of March. The white bass should show up first, followed by the hybrids and stripers.

I really think the bite will be off the charts by the middle of March.

Trolling is still slow but is getting better. The best time seems to be midday.  I have been pulling my rigs at 2.4-3.3 mph about 100 behind the boat. The trolling bite is just around the corner. I really think once the lake clears the trolling bite will get as good as the live bait bite.
