Labor Day With Firstbite….

Vacation with the kids has been great. Up until today I haven’t even thought about picking up a reel and rod. Tina and I got up today ( Last day of vacation ) at 8am and headed down to the beach to reserve our beach chairs. As soon as we got to our chairs out of know where it started to pour rain. We headed to the room and decided to sit on the balcony ( 23 floor ) and watch the dolphins and rays. The bait has been very thick on the beach this week so the rays and the dolphins have been staying around our condo from sun up to sun down…

Today there was a few small schools of Red fish  chasing bait right off the sand bar. But they where moving fast and would almost be impossible to keep up with without some help from up above. Tina and I came up with a plan, I would wade out the the sand bar. Then she would hold up her right arm for me to go right and her left arm for me to go left. If she held up both arms then it meant the fish where right in front of me…

So with plan and rod in ( $15.00 rod and reel combo, 8 lb test and two Mack Farr Bucktails ) hand I headed down to the beach. Well another angler ( Brandon ) saw the red fish and beat me to the beach. After talking to Brandon for a few minutes we found out that we only live 5 miles from each other.  I told Brandon about my and Tina’s plan and he told me he had the same game plan with his two kids. I waved my rod at Tina,  this was my sign to get her to point me in the right direction. Her right arm goes up and I started moving as fast as I could waist deep in water for what seem like 5 minutes. Then she threw both arms up and I made my first cast. And boom HOOK UP… I waded in to the beach and landed a very nice 8-10 lb Red Fish. Took a picture and quickly release it. By now Brandon was Hook Up and was making his way back to beach where he landed a nice Red Fish. Tina took a quick picture and Brandon then release it as well. Minutes later I hook up again and after a very short battle I got broke off. The bite lasted another 30-45 minutes for us and then the reds move on. But man it sure was fun while it lasted. We caught some good fish and made a new friend…..

Life was good  today…..
