The identity of the drowning victim on Lake Lanier has been identified.

Sunday afternoon, June 23, 2013, the GA Department of Natural Resources informed LakeAllatoona.com of the drowning death of a man on Lake Lanier.

Authorities now say that the victim was Mr. Lindy James Murdock, age 33, of Bass Street in Atlanta.

An enjoyable day with family and friends took a tragic turn when Mr. Murdock jumped off a raft near Athens Park Road at about 3 PM.  He never resurfaced.

DNR Ranger Sgt. Mike Burgamy notified us at 4:35 PM that a 33-year-old man had been declared dead by authorities a few minutes earlier, following a 45-minute search by dive teams from Forsyth and Hall County emergency agencies.  The body was recovered near Vann Tavern Park.

There is no suspicion of foul play.

We extend our condolences to Mr. Murdock’s friends and family.
