Melissa Cummings — DNR Wildlife Resources Division’s Communications & Outreach Specialist — has some decent news for us.

As of 9:42 PM, Friday, July 5, 2013, there have been no drownings and no boating related deaths on Georgia’s lakes thus far this July 4th holiday weekend.

In spite of the rain and increased patrols, we have had seven boating incident related injuries, compared to only three during the Fourth of July holiday weekend in 2012.

Things could be much worse.
