Acworth Police Department’s Covering the Bases Fundrasier

On Friday October 2nd the Acworth Police Department will kick off the second annual “Covering the Bases” fundraiser event at 5 p.m.  The 24 hour event is being held to raise money for “Horizon Field” at the Acworth Sports Complex which is located at 4000 South Main St. in Acworth.

Horizon Field, formally known as the Special Needs Field, is constructed of a flat cushioned, synthetic rubber surfaces that allows accessibility to children with all types of special needs. To date Horizon Field is the only field of its kind in the area.

Covering the Bases will begin on Friday evening with a DJ and a movie on the field after dark.  Participants will be “covering” or walking the bases during the entire event.  On Saturday morning, the Horizon league will begin its fall season with baseball games starting at 9 am. During the day there will be activities for all ages.  Members of the Acworth Police Department will be on hand walking the bases and selling raffle tickets for numerous door prizes that have been donated by local merchants.

Last year the event was a great success and the Acworth Police Department was able to raise over $20,000 to help build the field.  One hundred percent of the proceeds from this year’s event will go directly to the field to help with upkeep and improvements.

In addition to financial support, we are in need of walkers and/or runners. The police department would like to invite everyone to come out and “cover the bases” with us for an hour, two hours, or even 24 hours.  No pre-registration is required.  If you have any questions regarding this event or would like to make a donation please contact Officer Jeff Rose at 678-801-4073 or [email protected].
